TRADITIONAL ROUNDER
This rounder will turn a length of 19mm square section hardwood into a 16mm dowel. The primary use is for the production of sticks for Windsor Chairs but it can be used to produce dowelling for any purpose.
The finish straight from the blade is polished and requires no sanding.
The tool body is made of hard wearing beech and the blade is made of 01 grade tool steel flat ground stock.
APPLICATION
The rounder is fed onto the square section hardwood stock, which is slowly rotating on the lathe. Unlike more expensive modern rounders which
require a special turning engine, this rounder works well at 425 rpm, the minimum speed of the Coronet 3 lathe or equivalent.
Each rounder is individually made to order by hand.

TRADITIONAL TRAVISHER
This travisher will hollow or saddle a windsor chair seat in Elm, Oak or Ash. It will do the job from start to finish with minimal need for scraping or sanding.
APPLICATION
The travisher is pushed across the grain of the hardwood seat blank to make rapid deep cuts and pushed with the grain to make finishing cuts.
The travisher obviates the need for the hard work of adzing or scorping.
Each travisher is made individually to order from beech and 01 grade tool steel flat ground stock .
Price £59 plus p+p
Travishers leave a relatively smooth surface but it can be improved with scraping.
Chairmakers face a problem in scraping the concave surface of seat saddling. Cabinetmakers' scrapers are unsuitable.
The dilemma is solved with this scraper travisher. A tool steel blade is held vertically in a travisher body. The blade has slots and it may be adjusted to change the cut or reposition after grinding. The blade has a raised burr and takes a very fine cut.
The marks of travishing and working are quickly removed with minimum effort.
